There's a lot of different strategies you can use but with conditional access you could make it so the contractors could only access the data from the terminal server (maybe spin up a small 2019 terminal server or WVD in azure for the contractors). Use Intune, Azure information protection, conditional access, etc. Most of the time it can from my experience. Of course there's a lot to it and you have to know what you're doing.ĭepending on what you're doing Azure AD/Intune can replace AD. A better approach would be to give them a base setup and training so they can adopt the system then move/archive data as necessary. Having a bunch of users sync 500GB of data would be a nightmare. Would not recommend "migrating" a file server to SharePoint. I'd like a copy of the data completely off the system, in case there is some sort of catastrophic malware attack, sabotage, user error or similar. I'm looking at moving them to OneDrive/SharePoint/Teams - full Microsoft "serverless" stack. They've been on this setup for several years now. They dial into the terminal server through a range of devices ranging from laptops to HP thin clients. They have Office 2016 installed on the terminal server. E-Mail is already through Office 365, but files are stored on the server and drives mapped. There's a DC, a File Server, a couple RDS servers (session host, gateway etc) running 2012. So we've got a client with approx 500 GB data and a few servers with 30 seats total.
